UPDATE: 11:30 AM EST

George Zimmerman met with his new attorney this morning after spending the night in jail.

The chief of the public defender’s office in Sanford, Jeff Dowdy, will be representing the 30-year-old. As previously reported, the defense attorney who aided in Zimmerman’s acquittal of murder, Mark O’Mara, will not be a part of Zimmerman’s newest legal woes.

Dowdy described his new client as  “doing as well as can be expected.”

Zimmerman is expected to appear before Seminole County Judge Fred Schott at 1:30 p.m. today in a courtroom at the jail. Dowdy will reportedly ask Schott to release Zimmerman on bail.

George Zimmerman may be sitting in jail right now, but before police took him in on assault and domestic violence charges, he had a chance to tell his side of the story.

In a 911 call that has just been released, Zimmerman tells the dispatcher that he did not attack his girlfriend and that, in fact, she’s the one being aggressive.

“I have a girlfriend, who for lack of a better word, has gone crazy on me,” Zimmerman said.

He then proceeds to tell the dispatcher that the woman, Samantha Scheibe, threw his clothes and bags out of the house, including his firearm, which he claims was “in a bag locked.” He claimed that it was Scheibe who smashed a table at the home they shared. And as for him pulling out a shotgun on Scheibe, as she described in the first 911 call?

“I never pulled a firearm.”

In fact, Zimmerman told the dispatcher that he would never put Scheibe through that kind of stress because she’s pregnant. And according to the 911 call, an argument about parenting sparked the domestic dispute.

“She’s pregnant with our child and she told me it was better if she raised our child on her own. She’s pregnant, I’m not going to put her through that kind of stress.”

What a bombshell.

But his side of things didn’t seem to mean anything to police. Zimmerman was charged with domestic aggravated assault with a weapon, domestic battery and criminal mischief. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
