A young solider born and raised in San Antonio was killed over the weekend while serving on his first tour of duty in Afghanistan.
While family members mourn the soldiers death, they are still wondering how he died.
They say 19-year-old John Andrade left for Afghanistan in June. His father says he was killed sometime over the weekend. But, questions surround Andrade’s death.
Family members don’t know how he died.
His father says Andrade was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) last week. He reportedly called his mother on Friday to let her know he was OK, and that he got away with just a few bumps and bruises.
But, on Sunday the family says they got a knock on the door and the message delivered was the worst news any parent could get.
They said Andrade had been killed.
Andrade, a newlywed, leaves behind a wife, and a baby boy.
