Police investigating the appearance of a number of body parts found in Long Island, NY earlier this month have arrested a Brooklyn woman for dismembering a 27-year-old mother of four.

Police said that 42-year-old Leah Cuevas will be charged with second-degree murder in the death of Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne, also of Brooklyn.

From CBS:

Authorities confirmed that a partially dismembered torso discovered at a parking lot July 8 in Bay Shore on Long Island was that of the victim, a mother of four. Browne’s family said she was last seen July 5.

Shortly after the body was found, severed arms were discovered at two nearby homes in Hempstead just one day apart. On July 17, the station reports a human head was found in front of a row of bushes outside a home in the same Nassau County town. Police have not yet confirmed whether any of the recovered Hempstead remains belong to Browne.

Police reveal the motive behind the brutal killing may have been linked to Cuevas’ impersonation of a landlord.

Cuevas is charged with murdering her “tenant” in a rent dispute, then dumping the body parts in multiple locations in a grotesque attempt to cover up the murder.

On July 4th, prosecutors say she angrily confronted the victim over what was described as a “non-payment of rent and utilities.” It was so heated, police had to intervene to break it up.

The following day, the victim returned home and was allegedly confronted again. She was overhead screaming, “No, Leah! No, Leah! What are you doing? Oh no, Oh no! I’m sorry!”

Prosecutors say Browne was never seen again.

Cuevas is currently in custody.
