A South Carolina teen is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge after she shot at her friend in a bulletproof vest and missed.

Blake Wardell, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. Taylor Kelly, 18, could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

According to the Daily Mail, Wardell found an old bulletproof vest on Wednesday, put it on, and asked Kelly to fire at him to test it out. Kelly fired a single round from a small-caliber handgun at the vest, but just missed. Authorities say the bullet went through the lining and into Wardell’s heart.

Deputy coroner Don McCown determined that the 26-year-old victim bled to death. He also classified Wardell’s death as a homicide. He said there was no evidence of heavy alcohol or drug use.

Kelly is being held at the Anderson County Detention Center. Her bond was set at $10,000. An investigation is ongoing.
