Rapper Snoop Dogg made an appearance at the Nation of Islam's annual Saviours' Day convention for the first time as a special guest seated on stage during the keynote address by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan on March 1.

Snoop spoke before the capacity crowd at the Rosemont Theatre to deliver words of support.

"As a leader of the hip hop community I will always seek out the Minister for guidance. I'm here to get information to take it back to the hip hop community"

Snoop also noted that people do not give Minister Farrakhan enough credit for his work in Hip Hop although he has mentored so many in the genre to help defuse many beefs in the past and has shown them their power unlike anyone else.

Snoop later told AP that "When you get a speech from Minister Farrakhan it's about a mirror, it's about looking at yourself. It's about seeing yourself and what you can do to better the situation ... We're doing a lot of wrongs among ourselves that need correcting."

Rapper T.I. appeared via a recorded video. He was unable to attend in person but stated "I would like to welcome you all to Saviours' Day. I would like to personally apologize to the Minister and the Nation for not being able to be present physically."

T.I. continued by stating that "success on any level begins with education. The things you don't have will be a reflection of the things you don't know. Your environment does not define you unless you allow it. You can take where you are in life and use it one or two ways. You can use it as motivation to push yourself forward and never look back. Or you can use it as an excuse to stand still, do nothing and go nowhere. The choice is yours."

  • LONG LIVE FARRAKHAN
  • The Minister is the most influential and truly powerful leader of my lifetime. The progress of his message is phenomenal. I realize it's far fetched but I would love to see him connect in some substantial capacity with the new president Barack Obama. Hat's off to Snoop as he is always pushin' the envelope for Hip Hop and the wESt Coast in particular. As for T.I......he is fast becoming a voice on intelligence and inspiration and that is awesome.
  • Good grind...All human beings can change. God is not through with us.
  • Good grind...all artist should listen to and get behind Farrakhan
  • Ok, I have been reading mad reports today that Snoop joined the Nation of Islam...I did not hear him say that while I was watching the webcast and the original AP report quoted him as saying he's been apart of the movement...on the real I consider myself apart of the NOI although I am not in the Mosque. I got love for them and support Farrakhan...I think that's what snoop was saying.

But let a brother be. dang
    • There are thousands maybe millions of people who back Farrakhan but don't have on headpieces and bowties. Thank you for the support.
  • A agree this is a good look but I don't know about him being a leader in hip hop. Honestly I don't even know if hip hop has a leader and if so what defines one.

But besides that I think all artists should back Farrakhan. He is the only Black leader that hasn't sold us out plus he has supported hip hop even during its madness and hasn't judged the artists yet encourages them

    good grind
    • That hip-hop leader part sounds like a good dialogue and that is 1000 percent correct that Farrakhan has not sold out! And will not!
  • This is good. And I wish the media stop saying that Snoop joined the NOI...I didn't hear him say that.
  • I like seeing this....good grind brother jesse
  • The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is always looked at in a negative way...me personally i wish more people would listen to his words..he speaks the truth...and for these artist to be apart of this makes me feel good...its a positive for hip hop which we rarely get to see because people like to glamorize the negative of it.
    • Absolutely....everyone should hear him at least one time in their life in person to make a proper assessment rather than listening to sound bites
  • thats a good look now a days you have to have faith in something.
  • love the minister always more inspired by ti everyday! pray that he can continue to do outreach to young people his spirit is needed
  • This is awesome!
